Wash Day

I painted this with Oil on top of an Acrylic underpainting on Canvas Board, using scrapers to create the illusion of soft edges. This allows the oils to be moved around while returning to the permanent underpainting if desired.
I took this photo in the Caribbean Islands years ago. I was moved by the contrast in the lifestyle this woman has compared to many of those in America. I made part of her the brightest area in my focal point, depicting the possibility that her day is filled with bright sunshine and joy no matter her circumstances.
