Wash Day

I painted this with Oil on top of an Acrylic underpainting on Canvas Board. This allows the oils to be moved around while returning to the permanent underpainting if desired.
I took this photo in the Caribbean Islands years ago. I was moved by the contrast in the lifestyle this woman has compared to many in America. I made part of her the brightest area in my focal point, depicting the possibility that her day is filled with bright sunshine and joy no matter her circumstances.
