It was the late afternoon "golden hour" when I came upon this hard worked shed along the South Platte River in Northern Colorado. It belonged to a farming family for many years, but the homestead including this structure was damaged beyond repair when a series of prolonged summer monsoon storms in the nearby Rocky Mountains brought devastating floods to this low lying area. My goal was to develop a feeling of abandonment but one supported by a sense of solitary peace. This painting began as a plein air study and was completed in my studio.
