Backpacking the Wind River Range of Wyoming, I was struck by the jagged peaks that surrounded our camp. I sat out there sketching the landscape every day in between exploring. The shapes in the shadows, the smooth rock a pedestal to the sharp, the high alpine pines small and skinny. This piece acted as a practice for real Plein Air. I challenged myself to take a photo from this trip and paint it in one hour. A true test to see if this was something I would be able to do in a real landscape like this in the future. To switch out the pencils for paint in my pack.
