Sanctuario

Watercolor and gouache. I have visited the Sanctuario de Chimayo many times since I was a child. It is a spiritual place that holds fond memories for me. In this composition I was drawn to the juxtaposition of the man-made structure in the foreground against the glowing tree in the background. The changing colors of the tree represent the cycle of life and the concepts of restoration and rebirth that many people seek during their pilgramage to this sanctuary.
