Snow-covered pine trees are definitely a favorite subject of mine. If the snow is still stuck to the tree boughs, it's usually because it's freshly fallen, which I find exudes a quiet peacefulness that I love. And from an artistic perspective, it allows me lots of contrasts with edges, values and temperatures to leverage in the painting. I had previously done a pastel version of this subject as a workshop demo and was pleased enough with it to tackle it in this larger oil version.
